Have you been to see the film yet? I loved it, beautiful and hopefull. The silent opening half hour was amazing and I really liked the closing credits. But the short film before it was fantastic, just made me laugh aloud over and over.
Oh. Now I don't know if David was being sarcastic or not :)
I recognised Johnny 5 straight away but ET only hit me later. I was making WALL-E out of the little lad's dinner (the only way he eats anything) and it was only then that I saw the ET shape.
Sharon yeah I thought it was a stunning piece of work and totally agree on the credits. They were great. I'm a big Suerat fan so enjoyed that reference. No one else in the cinema was even looking though! I like to stay put after a good film and let it sink in a bit.
Loved the film too. Very much so. However preferred the Incredibles as an amazing example of how animation can bring us something that real life will never, ever do...

the wife (ET!) wasn't allowed to watch short circuit as a child!
I may take her to see WALL-E as a treat...

Me? Sarcastic? No!
Well, no I wasn't really. Got the Johnny 5 nod but missed ET.
Standing by earlier comment.
